What should I do to prepare for my first appointment?

Engaging in counseling services requires a great deal of courage. Knowing this, your safety, quality of care, and progress in treatment is of the utmost importance to me. Studies show that one of the most important factors in the effectiveness of counseling is the therapeutic relationship. That is to say, the more comfortable you are with your counselor, the more effective your treatment will be (see resources tab for study). To this end, it is important we have a pre-appointment consultation. In doing so, we can each determine the fit between what you are seeking and what I am able to provide.

If after that call we both agree to move forward, an intake appointment will be scheduled. In this first session, we will get to know one another, discuss your current experiences and situation, and explore some initial goals for future sessions. As in all my sessions, I welcome questions about the process to ease any concerns you may have.
